The Importance of Black Culture
There is an extremely different culture out there, one that is both rooted in heritage, history, and strength. Black culture has led us to be a united community, and this togetherness has created a modern sense of solidarity. This is the same culture that is celebrated in the aforementioned style subsects. As much as this subculture embraces its history, there is an unwritten pressure for us to continue to fight for it, and it’s important that we don’t forget to teach our young people how to distinguish their culture from our predecessors. It’s important to pass down our history and culture to the next generation, but it’s also important to never forget where it comes from.

Zel Davenport: Zel Davenport is a Los Angeles-based graphic designer turned blogger. In 2015, she partnered with Black D.E.N. to help them with branding. The pieces designed were released from October to December 2015, and immediately went viral. The design aesthetic was definitely seen as bold, as there were small holes for the arms and legs. We loved how bold the color scheme was, and how they incorporated color into all of the pieces. They also introduced their new leather colorway with the graphic patterns we’ve seen before in their logo.
