The author acknowledges that “nuclear families” have been common in Europe and the UK for some time, but after industrialization their nature changed and they became very private and exclusive units of two people, completely inward looking. The more accurate term for this is “Isolated Family,” “Closed Nuclear Family,” or “Private Nuclear Family,” if you want to explore that. There is little doubt that families were clearly closed, exclusive units of two people before industrialization and the advent of capitalism as the dominant ideology underlying social organization and now globalization, and are even more so today.
