How to Choose the Right Photographer for You

There are many reasons in life to hire a professional photographer such as:

  • your wedding day,
  • wanting to update your family photographs,
  • a special occasion or event.

In all cases, it is very difficult to know how to choose the best photographer at the best price. There are literally thousands of good photographers that will offer you the best, but only one of them is the right person for you. I am a professional photographer in Antalya and I would like to share what I have learned over the years.

First, you need to find a list of potential photographers. Ask your friends and family if they can recommend any, personal recommendations are invaluable. Search for photographers in your area on the Internet or in local directories. Nowadays, most reputable photographers have good websites with sample photos for you to check out.

Once you have found a photographer with the style you like, check to see if their prices are listed. Price is always a factor to consider, especially nowadays. Regarding prices, what you see at the beginning is not always the real price.

Sites that say "prices starting at..." can be misleading. Make sure they give you an accurate price for the photograph you want. If you are not sure, contact the photographer and ask for a complete price list. They should be able to provide it. If they don't, they may charge you additional costs you hadn't thought of if you go ahead with them.

Once you have chosen a list of photographers, contact them. You can do this as you see fit. I recommend that you call them on the phone and talk to them, as this will be your first contact and may give you more insight into the photographer. If you are happy after the first contact, you should get to know your potential photographer.

When meeting a person, there is always an initial feeling that is simply human nature. It is our inner self that makes an instant decision about whether or not you like the person and whether you can trust them. Most of us ignore it and wait for the person to sell themselves, but I think you have to listen to this inner voice. The instincts we are born with should not be underestimated, as they have allowed civilization to survive for centuries.

At this point, you are in a position to make an informed and wise decision about your choice of photographer.

FAMILY PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY -

Choosing a photographer for your family portraits is very personal, as they are inviting you to share a fun, smile-filled family moment. If you go to their studio you need to be sure that they have the facilities you need and that you and your family will be relaxed and therefore look fantastic in your photographs.

If they come to your home with their mobile studio, you should be confident that they will not only take fantastic family portraits of you and your family but also that they will respect your home. Family portraits are a lot of fun and are beautiful to hang on the walls but to get those perfect shots you must be relaxed in the environment in which the pictures are taken and relaxed with your photographer, especially if you have young children.

EVENT PHOTOGRAPHY -

Whether it's a corporate event, a formal event or a family party, your event photographer will be there taking lots of pictures and capturing the event as it happens. Make sure you find a photographer with the style of photography you want to capture the event and be sure the photographer will be able to deliver.

It is not just a matter of running around taking lots of pictures, but the photographer will need to be attentive to the entire event without intruding at any point. A good event photographer is one who takes a lot of pictures but, after the event, doesn't remember seeing much. Testimonials and examples will help you decide on an event photographer and, of course, word of mouth.
